Description of Event
On Sunday September 27th the Borough of Hightstown will host its 2nd annual Sprint Triathlon. The adult course will again start with the .25 mile swim in
All event proceeds will be donated to the Xit8 SK8 Park (http://www.hightstown-skatepark.org/) fund which has been set up to help build the Xit8 SK8 Park. Over $25,000 has been raised and several local, county, state and national grants have been applied for. A small grant here, a large grant there, a few more events, some donations and we are close to that goal and a skate park is born. The funds realized from the triathlon and other events will support this project. Once completed, the park will be run by the Hightstown Parks & Recreation Commission. Then the annual Triathlon proceeds will support the maintenance of the skate park. In our first season, the Triathlon saw a net contribution to the
The key ingredient here is kids. They are taking an active role in design and fundraising. They are learning the benefits of teamwork, patience and goals. A skate park provides a safe place to practice their sport, expend energy, meet friends and make new ones. Skateboarding requires a hard smooth surface that sidewalks can not provide and parking lots are off limits. The only legal place to skate is the street and that is just not safe. A social, fun, physically demanding sport as skate boarding also helps prevent childhood obesity, drug use and crime.
Last Season’s event saw just under 200 competitors. This year we expect 250 adult competitors plus 100 kids to participate in the weekend events. We will again have over 150 volunteers that are key to the weekend’s events. The adult race will start at
The area around Peddie Lake, the finish line for the events will be transformed into a festival with participants, vendors, spectators and local merchants all supporting the community. Take advantage of getting involved in our community and supporting the kids. This event supports the efforts of the Hightstown community to give kids a place that they call their own.
